Rachel Alexandra's Matteo

News flash..... Matteo's first cria has arrived and she is gorgeous, a medium fawn with gray points out of a white female. His daughter is tall and stretchy with glow-in-the-dark luster and ropey locks. More Matteo crias coming in 2024!!

Matteo! Elegant offspring out of Rachel Alexandra (medium silver, gray) and Kokomo (medium fawn)! Matteo's maternal grand dam was no other than our 2-time grand champion, Lorraine, whose show-me attitude was passed on to all of her offspring; and his dam's sire was Shasta Springs Bachelor out of one of Gail Campbell's top herdsires (Maranta's Peruvian Maximillan). Maximillan was true black with a white tuxedo and had a beautiful full fleeced head passed on by his herdsire, Peruvian Aureo. Bachelor continued to pass on this beautiful head to his offspring and improved luster and fineness in all of his offsping. Bachelor produced gray from every female he was bred to, a feat that will be hard to replicate. Matteo's paternal grand dam was out of a Uribe Accoyo lineage. Both sides had beautiful lock structure, luster and fineness. The strength of their Suri phenotype was strong even into their senior years.

Matteo has the extreme coverage and density that is only seen in the most elite of herdsires. Matteo's pictures say it all. Matteo has a solid conformation with good bone and is an eager breeder. We are anxious to see what color Matteo will pull from our grey females as Matteo's fleece is medium brown with black and silver points. One thing we are certain of is that his crias will be covered in fine lusterous locks from head to toe.

Matteo continues to impress us. With his 2023 fleece, nearing four years of age, Matteo still sheared 10.0 lbs -- and this was just with eleven months of fleece growth! Histogram results coming soon.
